Meet Our Team

Inner-Directed Therapy is led by its co-founders Jimena Doval Clarke and Scott Edwards, who bring diverse experience across therapeutic and contemplative practice, as well as training, education and group facilitation.

Together, they have been closely involved in the development and delivery of psychedelic-assisted therapy in Australia. This includes developing and leading the country’s first practitioner training program, and contributing to some of the earliest clinical delivery of psychedelic-assisted therapy.

Inner-Directed Therapy has emerged from the insight that an integrative, deeply embodied approach to training is required for those seeking to work in contemporary therapeutic contexts.

Jimena Doval Clarke

These days, Jimena wears several hats within the psychotherapy and mental health field, with her work spanning clinical practice, education, supervision, and group facilitation. At the heart of her professional identity is her work as a humanistic psychotherapist in private practice, where she specialises in supporting individuals experiencing trauma and addiction.

Alongside her clinical work, Jimena is a lecturer at Ikon Institute of Australia, where she teaches across both undergraduate and postgraduate programs. Her teaching focuses primarily on trauma and the body, supporting counselling and psychotherapy students to develop an understanding of how trauma is held within the nervous system and human experience. She is particularly passionate about helping emerging therapists recognise the body not only as a place where trauma is carried, but also as a powerful gateway for healing.

Jimena was also among the first therapists in Australia to work clinically with psychedelic-assisted therapy following the rescheduling of psychedelic medicines. She continues to support clients within this emerging field as part of a co-therapy dyad. In addition to her clinical practice in psychedelic-assisted therapy, Jimena provides both individual and group supervision to therapists and psychedelic-assisted therapy clinics across Australia.

Another enduring passion of Jimena’s is group therapy and group facilitation. Over the years, she has facilitated therapeutic groups across a diverse range of settings, including women’s prisons, private hospitals, and community-based programs. She holds a deep belief in the transformative potential of the group process and sees the group container as one of the most profound vehicles for growth and healing.

Scott Edwards

Scott Edwards has spent over 10 years working at the intersection of education, expanded states of consciousness and somatic practice.

As Executive Officer and Head of Education and Training at Mind Medicine Australia, Scott designed and delivered Australia's first and largest training program in psychedelic-assisted therapies — the Certificate in Psychedelic-Assisted Therapies (CPAT) — training over 400 clinicians across psychiatry, psychology, and psychotherapy. He was also part of the team that successfully advocated for the landmark 2023 regulatory changes enabling the clinical use of psychedelics in Australia.

Alongside this, Scott has maintained a private practice for over a decade as a somatic facilitator, working with breathwork, bodywork, and somatic therapies to support deep healing in individuals and groups. He is a co-founder of Breath Medicine.

Whether leading a team, teaching, or facilitating therapeutic process, Scott's work is deeply informed by his contemplative practice. This practice, which integrates Buddhist teachings with earth-connection and ancestral practice, is a source of joy and wisdom — and the ground from which he holds a deep trust in the capacity of each of us to find our path to insight and healing.
